This title documents Tasmanian Aboriginal artist Julie Gough’s major survey show held at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Hobart in 2019. Her art and research practice often involves uncovering and re-presenting conflicting and subsumed histories, many referring to her family’s experiences as Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

Julie invites viewers to explore with closer understanding, our continuing roles in unresolved narratives of memory, time and location. The book features works from the last 25 years of her career, alongside essays and writing from Dave mangenner Gough, Lauren Gower, Zoe Rimmer, Dr Mary Knights, Joseph Pugliese, Greg Lehman, Neika Lehman and Margaret Woodward.

The publication is notably small, leatherette quarter-bound and its title block embossed in foil. The book is a work of art in and of itself that has been deliberately conceived as an intervention into the typical colonial library, designed to sit hiding in plain sight.
