About

The Art Guide Bookstore is a carefully curated selection of the best Australian art publications being made today.

The Bookstore was conceived by the team who publish Art Guide Australia magazine, drawing on our expertise around contemporary art over twenty-five years. The aim is to source books from the best independent arts publishers across Australia and stock publications produced by artists, galleries and museums, that may be otherwise difficult to find. We’re working with large and small publishers and you can find out more about Australian art publishers here.

If you’re looking for a recommendation we would love to help you. The store is designed to appeal to artists, collectors, curators, and those who love to visit galleries and immerse themselves in art. We’re located in Northcote, the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri-Willam people, next to Dennis train station or a short walk from Westgarth High Street.

There’s a variety of quality art books on offer, including the latest Australian art magazines, recommended titles (curated by Art Guide Bookstore Manager and artist Caitlin Aloisio Shearer), and new releases.

Every month we publish a book review by writer and editor Jane O’Sullivan. Jane has a wealth of experience and brings her keen eye to the reviews without fear or favour.

In 2025 we will be having number of art events, book launches and artist talks,  in addition to our Book Club. Sign up to our newsletter to stay informed about events.

Art Guide Bookstore acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia. We particularly acknowledge the Wurundjeri-Willam peoples of the Kulin Nation, upon whose land Art Guide Bookstore largely operates. We recognise the important connection of First Peoples to land, water and community, and pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
