Art Guide Australia March/April 2024

“There’s an undeniable presence to Hayv Kahraman’s images, one of which graces our March/April cover. For all the softness, there’s a quiet, political urgency to the Iraq-born, Los Angeles-based artist’s depiction of the human body, and the subjectivity that’s captured.”

Art Guide Australia is a print and online magazine exploring contemporary Australian art. Our editors and our team of writers and contributors know the local art scene and keep you informed through engaging and thoughtful articles.

We speak with artists, curators and gallerists to learn more about their ideas and share them with an audience who want to know more about Australian art and what to see.

We’re here to support a vibrant and diverse arts community and our aim is to provide independent, considered editorial coverage alongside a comprehensive picture of what’s happening in the visual arts across Australia.

In this issue:

Our March/April issue is your insider guide to the 24th Biennale of Sydney. We have the softly urgent art of Biennale artist Hayv Kahraman on our cover; we talk to Biennale artistic directors Inti Guerrero and Cosmin Costinaș; we chronicle the practises of nine Biennale artists around the world; and have an incredible long-form interview with Tracey Moffatt. March also marks the Adelaide Biennial—and we have a poignant profile on exhibiting artist James Barth. We also speak with Scotty So, Judy Watson and Yhonnie Scarce—all of whom are having significant solo exhibitions.
