Art Guide Australia January/February 2024

“In a country teeming with talent, selecting merely ‘10 Artists to Watch in 2024’ isn’t an easy task—but our cover artist, Truc Truong, is no doubt a worthy choice. She creates humourous yet poignant art, cultivating what writer and curator Mariam Ella Arcilla aptly calls a “spill-your-guts aesthetic”.”

Art Guide Australia is a print and online magazine exploring contemporary Australian art. Our editors and our team of writers and contributors know the local art scene and keep you informed through engaging and thoughtful articles.

We speak with artists, curators and gallerists to learn more about their ideas and share them with an audience who want to know more about Australian art and what to see.

We’re here to support a vibrant and diverse arts community and our aim is to provide independent, considered editorial coverage alongside a comprehensive picture of what’s happening in the visual arts across Australia.

In this issue:

In a special issue to start the new year, our cover artist Truc Truong is one of our ‘10 Artists to Watch in 2024’! Find out who the further nine artists are, with insightful words from many of Australia’s best arts writers, curators and critics. After a year of record art fair attendance and sales, we look at how the Melbourne Art Fair is going annual, plus we have in-depth conversations with Brent Harris and Diana Baker Smith, and visit Christopher Bassi’s stunning Brisbane studio. Alongside insightful writing on John Nixon, Brenda L Croft and Janet Fieldhouse, we also consider the thorny relationship between artists and advertising.
